Dolphins do not swim with skipjack tuna, the species usually used in John West’s cans. This is as true for all oceans including the Atlantic and Indian Oceans where virtually all John West tuna comes from.
John West have been awarded the ‘Dolphin Safe’ certification by the Earth Island Institute (EII), an internationally recognised NGO that has established the world’s largest private environmental monitoring programme aimed at protecting and preserving dolphins. Companies that comply with all EII requirements and standards are included on its list of verified ‘Dolphin Safe’ tuna companies and are allowed to use the ‘Dolphin Safe’ logo. John West is recognised as ‘Dolphin Safe’ by the EII.
