Herrings

Back to The Journey from Boat to Plate
{alt_text}

Delicious Herrings caught in the North East Atlantic.

Like all the fish on our planet we don’t want to run out of herring, so the months when we catch them are restricted to November - January and July - September. There are five boats in the John West Irish fishing fleet that sail the waters of the North East Atlantic in search of herring.

Once we’ve made our catch the fish are landed in the Irish port of Killybegs. They are then carefully transported the short distance to the John West canning plant in Co Donegal where they are traditionally hand-packed and distributed nationwide.

Nutritionally they serve as a rich source of vitamin D and Omega 3 fatty acids.
